This movie was mostly filmed entirely in the Westwood neighborhood, also the home of UCLA. Fortunately for me, I was working on UCLA’s campus at the time of my discovery, so I was able to spot most of these locations during a walking lunch break.
The dead give-away for the house of Carla was actually in the movie though. After a dinner with his family, Sherman heads over to Carla’s house to ask for a date. With her address firmly in his grips, he marches up the stairs.
Using that as a guide, I headed there and to my delight, everything had remained the same essentially, with the exception of the addition of a new black gate to the doorway pictured behind Sherman.
The location of this scene is exactly where you would expect after reading this. What is also conveniently nearby is Club Scream. Remember that one?
Easily one of my favorite locations; the actual building housed a Mexican restaurant named Acapulco until recently, it has now become a Tender Greens. I’ve peeked inside the Tender Greens just to see if the building could have actually housed a full night/comedy club but, alas, I believe the interior was on a set elsewhere in a studio.
