The incessant violence has to stop.
On Monday, iconic comedian and radio host Rickey Smiley revealed on his morning show that his daughter Aaryn Smiley had been shot.
Through the broadcast, Smiley broke the news to his co-hosts, and attributed it to the reason that he couldn’t focus on the show. To make matters worse, because of COVID-19 ramifications, he could not physically be in the same room at the Houston hospital as his 19-year-old daughter.
Reports surfaced that Aaryn was caught in crossfire this past weekend, and shot while driving to Whataburger to get food.
“The three men were in a vehicle at a stop light at the above address when an unknown vehicle passed them. The occupant(s) of the vehicle began shooting multiple times, wounding the three men. A female passenger in an unrelated vehicle was also struck,” police said.
Aaryn is presumed to be doing well and made it through a successful surgery according to her father. She posted some photos from her hospital bed Tuesday morning.
“The fact that the bullets that went thru my legs were armored riffled [sic] bullets made to go through anything (how they got through the car) but the one [that] would have hit me in the head was not that kind and ended up lodged in the car. God.” she wrote. “Words can’t describe how grateful i am to be alive right now.”
Smiley also commented in a separate picture that she would not be able to walk for a while due to nerve damage.
