Former NFL quarterback and face of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, Colin Kaepernick has spoken out in the wake of the brutal murder of George Floyd by a police officer. Addressing concerns of the recent looting in Minneapolis, Kap advocated for a revolution as opposed to a peaceful protest, because civility is what in fact, led to the death of George Floyd.
Kaepernick says in a tweet … “When civility leads to death, revolting is the only logical reaction.”
He adds … “The cries for peace will rain down, and when they do, they will land on deaf ears, because your violence has brought this resistance.”
The “your” is clearly implicating the police that murdered Floyd and countless other black citizens over the years, so it intimates that black folks are simply fed up and have no other option. In addition to that, there was this viral post circulating on social media yesterday.
As you are probably aware, Kaepernick has long stood as an advocate against police brutality, even risking his NFL career, as the quarterback has been out of the league since 2017. The ironic parallel is that Kaepernick was excoriated for kneeling during the National Anthem, which is the exact fashion that the Minnesota police officer killed Floyd: a knee on his neck for seven minutes, limiting his ability to breath.
Kaepernick is tired of it and making his message clear, and clearly encouraging others to follow his lead.
